Here's Why Overthinking Is Not as Bad as They Told You: 3 Reasons Why It Might Be a Real Superpower

Over-thinking is a part of life that many people have to deal with on a regular basis, and a lot of those find this constant over-analysis to be a hindrance.Well, not always.


Classically, the process of overthinking has been considered negative for a myriad of reasons, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the condition should be automatically associated with negativity. 

In fact, many argue that over-thinking could actually be a good thing in certain scenarios. It may go against the standard view of over-thinking, but such attention to every potential outcome or possibility can provide greater perspectives that others might just miss.

There are several reasons why over-thinking can be considered positive.

The Creativity Connection- an insight 
Over-thinking is sometimes known as analysis paralysis, and that refers that  process of over-thinking causes the outcome of the situation to never be reached, thereby nullifying the real time results in the first place.

We shall never deny the fact that over-thinking does have it analytical asset attached to it as well.



 Over-thinking has been linked to higher levels of intelligence and creativity and the interlinked relationship between those two facets of an individual personality are quite obvious. Genetic Makeup can be held responsible for this particular trait amongst our species.

The act of over-thinking is directly linked to an overactive medial prefrontal cortex, which is the site of conscious perception and Threat analysis. This area is responsible for creativity, as well as the center of analysis paralysis (Over thinking)

The same creativity that can be used to build awesome imaginative landscapes and abstract ideas is also used to imagine all the countless scenarios and outcomes that one experiences when over-thinking.

Once an over-thinker realizes to simply realize that their mind is forwarding in a negative way, they can start to interchange the Patterns of thoughts so they can put their creative genius to better use. Also,  I would strongly suggest to all those having been dealing with over-thinking Condition throughout their lives to actually put forward their creative streak in order to remain sane. Observational Detail- Linked closely with higher IQ

Over-thinkers tend to have a quiet streak in them because they are always in their own head debating with themselves. This introverted quality might seem negative, but it can actually be quite helpful in social situations.



Over-thinkers are essentially suffering from an unusually overactive mind, and that includes the observational side of the situations. Most people who chronically over-think are also exceptional at noticing small details about any situation. 

Being exceptionally observational in social set-ups are well versed to avoid confrontation, maximize interaction, and follow multiple conversations at once. 

Over-thinkers learn to observe their surroundings more often will find they can learn a surprising amount just by viewing the words and actions of those around them, subconsciously.

It is much easier to engage with someone on a deep level if you have some semblance of what their personality is like. Such observation can also help you determine those individuals that you would rather avoid- A great Survival Strategy!!

As stated earlier, over-thinkers tend to correlate with those of higher intelligence and creativity, and that extends to memory storage and recall. Over-thinkers can use their overactive minds to produce creative thought but also to store and regulate information they collect from their surroundings.


Empathetic Reaction
Those that consider themselves to be over-thinkers actually have something of a gift compared to others.




An empathetic reaction is an idea that an over-thinker can use their mental abilities to combine observational detail and creativity to form an image of what existence must be like for another person.

Full empathy is the ability to completely place yourself in someone else’s shoes, and an empathetic reaction is a single instance of empathy in which the over-thinker momentarily realizes what an experience is like for the subject in a particular situation.

In many cases, empathy is used to feel the negative feelings and emotions that another might have in order to understand their position.

Over-thinkers are some of the best at empathy because they can learn to glean all the most important details while observing their surroundings. They can also learn to creatively use those details to fill in the gaps that are left unspoken or acted.

While over-thinking tends to have a negative stigma associated with it, it can actually be used to better your life if you can learn to control it.

There is no real reason to think of the overactive medial prefrontal cortex as a bad thing. In fact, it actually provides the potential for a larger appreciation of the world around you.

Just like any other tool & technique that can better your life, it must be learned and honed to become maximally effective. So the next time, Don’t let anyone tell you that over-thinking is an inherently negative thing.
